Privacy Policy for ScrollShot — Full Page Screenshot

Last Updated: August 2026

Overview

ScrollShot ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use the ScrollShot Chrome Extension (the "Extension").

TL;DR — The Short Version

  • ✅ We do NOT collect any personal data.
  • ✅ We do NOT track your browsing activity.
  • ✅ We do NOT send your screenshots to any server.
  • ✅ Everything happens locally on your computer.
  • ✅ We do NOT use analytics, trackers, or cookies.

Data Collection

What We Do NOT Collect

  • Personal information (name, email, address)
  • Browsing history or URLs you visit
  • Screenshot content or images
  • IP addresses
  • Device information
  • Usage analytics or telemetry
  • Cookies or tracking data

What We Store Locally

The following data is stored only on your local device using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your computer:

  • User Preferences: Your chosen settings such as image format (PNG/JPG), quality level, and theme preference.
  • Screenshot History Metadata: If you use the screenshot history feature, we store basic metadata (thumbnail, timestamp, page URL) locally. The actual full-resolution images are not permanently stored.
  • Temporary Screenshot Data: During the capture process, screenshot data is temporarily stored in your browser's local storage and is automatically cleaned up.

Permissions Explained

ScrollShot requests the following browser permissions, each for a specific technical reason:

PermissionWhy We Need It
activeTabTo capture a screenshot of the currently active tab when you click the capture button. This permission is only activated when you explicitly interact with the extension.
storageTo save your preferences (image format, quality, theme) locally on your device.
offscreenTo create an offscreen document for stitching multiple viewport captures into a single full-page image. This is a technical requirement of Chrome's Manifest V3 architecture.
downloads (optional)To save screenshots directly to your Downloads folder with a proper filename. You can deny this permission and still use the extension.

Third-Party Services

ScrollShot does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services. All processing happens entirely within your browser.

If you choose to use the optional donation feature, you will be redirected to an external payment provider (such as PayPal or Buy Me a Coffee). These services have their own privacy policies, and any transaction is between you and that provider.

Data Security

Since all data remains on your local device and is never transmitted, there is no risk of server-side data breaches. Your screenshots and settings are as secure as your own computer.

Children's Privacy

The core philosophy of ScrollShot is that your data belongs to you. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data, browsing history, or the contents of the screenshots you take.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
